Jacob Berman - President
Former President, CEO and Member of the Board of Directors of Commercial Bank of New York, Mr. Berman has an extensive background in banking. He earned his Master’s Degree in finance in 1972 at the University of Chicago and attended the Ford Management Seminar at Columbia University.
Jacob Berman’s first position in the banking industry was in the World Banking Group of Citibank, N.A. He joined Israel Discount Bank in 1974 and rose to the level of Senior Vice President and Chief Lending Officer. During his 11-year tenure with IDB, his responsibilities varied from the lending and loan departments, the real estate division, accounts receivable financing, the commodity department, import/export financing and middle market lending while also serving on the Operations, Marketing and Loan Committees of the Bank. In 1985, he formed Key Financial Corporation, a commercial finance company specializing in secured transactions, accounts receivable financing and real estate lending. In July 1988, he founded Commercial Bank of New York.
Starting in 1988 with just 12 employees and $15 Million in capital at a street location at the Waldorf Astoria, Mr. Berman, as President & CEO, was instrumental in building the institution through internal growth, whole bank and branch acquisitions, an IPO in 1993 and a NASDAQ listing. At the date of its sale in November, 2001, Commercial Bank was a 14 branch, 300 employee, $2.3 Billion total client asset financial institution specializing in private banking, middle market commercial lending and asset management for individuals. Besides local metropolitan area branches, other locations included Miami, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo and Rio De Janeiro.
Michael Dov Berman - Vice President
Former Representative in Israel for Commercial Bank of New York, Mr. Berman has an extensive background in international private banking, real estate and information systems technology. While working as a private banker for Commercial Bank in New York, Michael was responsible for business development in Israel and Latin America as well as lending his technology expertise to provide the international private bankers with marketing tools and presentations in order to aide them in attracting new clients. Prior to joining the international private bankers group, Michael worked with the technology group within the Bank.
In addition to being involved in the decision making for the Bank’s technology systems he created an extensive inventory database for all of Commercial Bank of New York’s computers and related technology equipment.
Before joining Commercial Bank of New York, Michael worked for Bankers Trust Company as a project manager for their telecommunications and trading floor support departments and for Century Business Credit Corp., a NY based factoring company for the garment industry, as a systems operator.
